Born in the heart of Rio Arriba county in Northern New Mexico and raised there and in Kingston, Jamaica, after graduating from high school Sam pursued his dream of seeing the world, exploring more than two dozen countries and living in six. He earned a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from a global program of Long Island University; an M.A. in International Law and Human Rights from the United Nations-founded University for Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica; and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the UNM School of Law.
As a litigator, Sam has successfully prosecuted employee and civil rights cases, intellectual property disputes, medical malpractice and wrongful death claims, sexual harassment and institutional sexual abuse of children claims, and civil and worker's rights claims. Notable cases include a multi-state collective action claim representing victims of wage theft by one of the largest producers of baked goods in the US and a claim under the NM Whistleblower Protection Act that led to the largest-ever settlement under that act. As an accomplished business attorney, he has advised businesses as outside counsel and as General Counsel, providing skilled guidance on employment, intellectual property, contract negotiations, and regulatory compliance. As an executive, he has served as both COO and CCO in the technology industry, overseeing growth from founding to eight-figure ARR in a fintech SaaS startup.
